September 27, 2025, marked the fifth annual Fast Track to a Cure Bay Area! It was a beautiful and windy day on the Marina Bay Trail in Richmond. This year we had so many community members involved. It is beautiful to witness the event grow each year and so touching to see so many cancer survivors and individuals touched by cancer take part. Oligo Nation's founder Brock Greene opened the event. For me, it went by in the blink of an eye! I am sharing my short remarks below, as well as a few photos from the event. As always, so much gratitude for all near and far who participated!!
My remarks:
My name is Stanley, and I was diagnosed with grade III oligodendroglioma in April 2021. I’m honored to have the chance to say a few words today. And really, my message is just a message of gratitude. First, I’d like to truly thank Brock and Oligo Nation for all you do for our community. And next I’d like to thank my sister Detta and friend Adriel for co-organizing today’s event with Celia, they truly pour their heart into this walk… and our fantastic group of volunteers too, including members of our families and many friends, some of whom have been volunteering for years, and some from our local Richmond community that we call home together. Thank you! I’d also like to thank all of you, our participants, taking part in the 5th Annual Fast Track to a Cure Bay Area. I know many of you woke up very early this morning to commute here from different parts of the Bay Area and beyond, and some of you flew in from other states!
We have family and friends walking today and tomorrow with us in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, New York, Michigan, Arizona, Ohio, Washington, D.C., Virginia, Canada, Germany and beyond. So truly, this walk is both a local and a global endeavor, rooted in grassroots efforts to support world class research and advances for our cause of finding better treatments and a cure for oligo. The momentum, the enthusiasm, the energy, and the spirit that you all bring to events like this one is amazing. I am so grateful to each of you.
May we not only dream of but SEE a day in the near future where not just brain cancer, but all forms of cancer, are curable. In the meantime, let’s continue to improve the lives of individuals touched by cancer through community events like this one. I hope you have a terrific time today, say hello to one another, get some photos, enjoy the food and entertainment!
